The Transmogrification of Miss Brody: An illustrated history of 300 years of horror and fantasy using Magic Lanterns

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

This is a combined presentation and play on Magic Lanterns, their history and their role in presenting horror and fantasy to audiences since about 1670. The play will be intertwined with the presentation and is a re-enactment of how the lanterns were used to fool people (in this case an innocent and gullible Miss Brody) into thinking they would be seeing their dead relatives. However, the means by which she is manipulated leads to a transmogrification  (to change or alter greatly and often with grotesque or humorous effect) in the young woman that will reveal a little known fact about the origins of science fiction.

The audience will see several Magic Lanterns (some are over 250 years old but they are still operational) that will be used to re-enact the events of over 200 years ago when they were called Devil Lanterns. Devil Lantern slides dating back to the 1700s will be shown.  This should be an entertaining and interesting event and will expose the audience to 300 years of history and technology that are the precursors to the horror and fantasy shows we know today.
