Space:1999 Fan Film, The Passenger
A screening of the Halifax shot Space:1999 fan film, The Passenger. This film is the culmination of a year and a half's work. The Passenger has gained glowing international reviews and will make its international debut in England this September at the worlds largest Space 1999 convention.

Run time 37 mins to be followed by a Q and A

The Passenger tells the story of Eagle Pilot, Jack Crawford, one of the 311 men and women stranded on Alpha Moonbase by the catastrophic events of September 13 1999….

He is sent on an emergency patrol to survey the remains of Nuclear Waste Area 2. A short if not dangerous flight, or so he thought…

The Passenger tells the story of that lone pilot, a man looking forward to the birth of his first child, indeed the first child fated to be born on Alpha as he tries to finish a critical and dangerous mission before he can safely return home to his wife Sue.

However it seem the universe has other plans for Jack Crawford.

The Transmogrification of Miss Brody: An illustrated history of 300 years of horror and fantasy using Magic Lanterns
This is a combined presentation and play on Magic Lanterns, their history and their role in presenting horror and fantasy to audiences since about 1670. The play will be intertwined with the presentation and is a re-enactment of how the lanterns were used to fool people (in this case an innocent and gullible Miss Brody) into thinking they would be seeing their dead relatives. However, the means by which she is manipulated leads to a transmogrification  (to change or alter greatly and often with grotesque or humorous effect) in the young woman that will reveal a little known fact about the origins of science fiction.

The audience will see several Magic Lanterns (some are over 250 years old but they are still operational) that will be used to re-enact the events of over 200 years ago when they were called Devil Lanterns. Devil Lantern slides dating back to the 1700s will be shown.  This should be an entertaining and interesting event and will expose the audience to 300 years of history and technology that are the precursors to the horror and fantasy shows we know today.

From Paper To Screen: The Comic Artist’s Creative Battle
Technology has not only advanced the way in which we create comics, it has also changed the way in which we digest content. Format has always been a consideration, whether it’s traditional media like newspapers, comic books, and magazines, or more current media like your mobile phone or laptop. Advancements in technology have given immeasurable freedom within self-publishing, and new tools for creative expression.

This talk will examine the history of pushing the boundaries of format, starting in print, with Watterson (Calvin & Hobbes), and pushing forward to the present day.  It will expose non-comic artists to a variety of webcomics they may be interested in, and there will also be some technical details and considerations for comic artists as well.

Presented by Christopher Hemsworth, creator of the webcomic Dear Inner Demons, which has been featured in a variety of publications, including WiRED magazine, and The Huffington Post. (dearinnerdemons.com)

Be a Man. Be a Wolf, Not a Teen Wolf. A Werewolf - Stiles

This fan run panel will look at the show as a whole as well as more detailed parts to see why it has such a massive following of enthusiastic fans and why it is a good show with merit even if it in not as huge as say Supernatural. Some of the things that will be discussed will be the relationships and connections of the characters and their interactions throughout the series, the mythology created in the shows universe and how it compares to other shows dealing with werewolves, The show's theme of "finding your place" as part of a pack or just as an individual trying to find yourself in this crazy world of the show. As well the idea of fan fictions, the creative explosion of fan creations, a memorial site for a beloved character and the hysteria of ships like Sterek due to this show's popularity will be discussed and looked at to see their positive and/or negative influences on the fandom and show.

Sex and The Big Bang Theory: Why TV Nerds Don't Get It On
A multimedia presentation followed by a group discussion about one of the most polarizing TV shows aimed at nerds in the history of television - The Big Bang Theory. It will examine sex/gender in TBBT and discuss how cliched writing and tropes not-so-secretly make fun of the characters in the show. It will NOT be an entirely anti-TBBT panel - the show has lots of positives which will be examined as well, supported by clips and *~*super fun graphs*~*.

We will focus on how lady-nerds are excluded from the show by illustrating how the showrunners depict women as either hot and dumb, or smart and sexually inept. I'll also demonstrate how the character of Penny is not as fun and lovable as she's made out to be - in fact, she might be scarier than a 15th level mind flayer!

There will be an opportunity for people to point out their most and least favourite moments of TBBT and talk about whether they identify with any of the characters or scenarios from the show.
